Olympus products are characterized by functionality, innovation, precision – and excellent design. Each year, products from all three business units are submitted for various design awards.
In pursuit of the perfect form
Many design aspects are important for proper product handling. The models produced in the Olympus design workshops are tested directly on customers and perfected right down to the smallest detail. This ensures that the product fits users with different physiognomies. Thanks to unique product design, Olympus products win design awards on a regular basis.
Participation in design competitions
Olympus participates in the red dot Design Award and the iF Design Award – two internationally recognized seals of quality awarded only to products of excellent design. Various products are submitted from the Medical Technology and Microscopy business, as well as Camera and Audio Products. In 2013 the Olympus DSX Series won the iF Gold Award for Product Design. The microscope system set new standards for opto-digital industrial microscopy and contact-free measurement technology. The iF Gold Award is presented to the 75 best products from among almost 5000 submissions.
In 2014 the OM-D E-M1 was the most advanced compact system camera of its time and signaled a new era in cameras. Its product design received an iF Design Award.
In 2017 the CH-S400 was given an iF Design Award. The camera head is part of the VISERA 4K UHD: For the first time in history, the endoscopy system enables Big Screen Surgery and displays the work area for physicians in greater detail than ever before.
The Olympus THUNDERBEAT combines ultrasound with the latest in bipolar, high-frequency energy technology in one instrument. The product enables simultaneous cutting and sealing of vessels during minimally invasive surgical interventions, and in 2013 received a Red Dot Design Award.
In 2017 the PEN camera product series turned 50. This birthday was celebrated with the new PEN E-PL8, which combines the classic style of days gone by with today’s modern design. For this, the camera received the 2017 Red Dot Award.
