Olympus focuses on growth with another construction project. “Olympus Surgical Technologies Europe is sending yet another strong signal in favour of innovative Hamburg with this groundbreaking ceremony. That creates jobs and puts both the company and our health sector ahead. All over the globe, countless numbers of patients can now hope for more progress in minimal invasive surgery,” Scholz comments.
The construction of the 20,000 square metre factory began in late 2017. “The medical technology of the future is being created and built for global markets here," says Stefan Kaufmann, Executive Managing Director Olympus Europa SE & Co. KG. "That will boost our development and production skills for rigid endoscopy, bipolar high-frequency surgery, system integration and instrument preparation and will contribute to our worldwide growth in medical technology."
Olympus is hiring and planning up to 5 per cent more jobs annually particularly in the field of medical technology. The new jobs have been accounted for in the expansions plans. Dr. André Roggan, Executive Managing Director, Olympus, said: “In accordance with the trend in recent years, we are planning strategic global growth of between 4 -5 per cent annually until 2025. The new building takes account of this development and will offer our staff a modern, inspiring work environment.”
The new factory will include several buildings for production, logistics and services and will also facilitate the long-term growth of Olympus. This will allow the company to expand and improve production. Production modelled on TPS/lean-manufacturing will also be introduced. The building is due for completion in summer 2019.
